5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for any self-proclaimed misfit: filled with perspective, insight, and strategies.

I found this book to be really well done and an excellent read. It spoke to me both personally, as someone who has always felt like a misfit or an outsider in life, and professionally, as a clinical psychologist. The book really speaks to those of us who feel different from the mainstream or different from what we've been taught we should be.   I found the book to be packed with great questions, insights, perspective, and strategies for change. I'm reading it a second time now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful and Thoughtful Book!

WOW! This is a wonderful book! Very well-written and I found myself reading and saying "YES! YES!" to so many important truths and realizations that I've felt at one point or another, but just couldn't find the words. They’re here, laid out for us in this book! I enjoyed reading about the connections our mind has to our bodies, and how we can have more control over some of our systems than we think. The thoughts and ideas are described so clearly and matter-of-fact and I enjoyed the logical explanations and examples for self-improvement, and self-acceptance. It’s comforting to know that several of my thoughts and theories align with this book. We aren’t so alone after all! Reading this book was very reassuring and I recommend it to anyone who has either been through hard times, hard thoughts, or just wants to explore deeper into themselves.

This book hooked me at the beginning!
If you want to have the tools to learn to love yourself, this is the book to read. I personally know of the author and I know this book was written from his heart. I felt a realise of pain after reading it and now know that I have a roadmap to loving myself first. Definitely would recommend this for anyone who feels lost.

5.0 out of 5 stars I feel seen.

I am halfway through this book. There are pages and paragraphs that I have read and then slowly re-read several times. For the first time, I truly feel “seen.” Dr Eilers has undeniably experienced firsthand the trauma of being human. He has brilliantly articulated warmth and an open-arm approach through the pages of reflection and healing. He does call us to self introspection; but most of us are already doing this… now we can maybe change this inner voice to a constructive and gentle one, a voice that supports and allows us to consider our own nemeses and healing by “going through.”
I will read this many times.

As a person who suffers from depression and anxiety for some time, i found this book very helpful in a unique way. It is NOT making noise while telling you nothing like most of the self help books. It is raw, very honest, lays everything down as it is. It is not insulting the intelligence of its readers, gives tons of relevant information and actually useful ones at that. It is full of evidence based information yet very easy to read. I genuinely can't advice this book enough. Just buy it and thank the writer later, like i am doing right now.

5.0 out of 5 stars I want more of this!

I loved Dr. Eilers’s book. From his personal experiences, including insights from his childhood, to his flavor of “You are not alone,” I was awash with mostly pleasant feelings and wanting to keep reading. In fact, I was sorry when I reached the end. I did not feel I was being told what was wrong with me or telling me to change. This is a “friendly,” refreshing, and very helpful read. I wish I could give it TEN STARS!! Looking forward to reading your next book, Dr. Eilers.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is not a "Self Help" book. It is ACTUALLY helpful.

Please, if you feel you are depressed, alone, anxious, etc, and you are not able to get to see a good therapist - buy this book. It will really help put some things in perspective and give you some good ideas on how to move forward. I promise it's worth the money!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for all of us insecure people in the world!

I finished this book in one sitting. It absolutely engaged me. Dr. Eilers tells it like it is. I particularly liked the anecdotes he used from his own experiences. I have been insecure, hollow, and lacking self-confidence for all of my nearly 66 years. I would love to share this book, but I am going to need to re-read it again and again as a reminder to myself to treat myself better!! Thank you, Scott, for sharing!

No bulls**t inside these pages. No telling you to do all the fluffy cliched things to make you feel better and likewise no giving you the unrealistic feel no emotion warror pep talk at the other end of the spectrum. What Scott does is stand beside us the reader shoulder to shoulder and gives me/you another perspective...a realistic one that you will find unsettling/comfort and most importantly hope from.
